Primrose Hill House.
2021
The conversion comprised extensive structural modifications to transform a 1960s Modernist house in Primrose Hill into a contemporary, energy-efficient home. Steel frames and structural beams were introduced to create open-plan living spaces and ensure stability while supporting the structure above.
Key alterations included the removal of unsympathetic additions and the creation of seamless connections between the interior and the private rear garden, achieved through the installation of large picture windows and sliding timber doors. A rooftop extension, the first allowed under new permitted development rules, provided a dedicated space for yoga and meditation with views over the surrounding landscaped gardens.
To enhance energy efficiency, the house was retrofitted with high-performance insulation, an airtight layer, and an MVHR system to ensure thermal efficiency and reduce energy costs. An air-source heat pump now provides all hot water and heating, making the home entirely fossil fuel-free. The conversion also incorporated innovative design details, such as the use of Azulejos-inspired material shifts in the staircase and joinery.
