Chorlton House.

2021

A significant structural transformation was undertaken to expand and modernise the property, involving the construction of a full-width basement and ground floor rear extension. Structural steel frames were installed to support the new extension, accommodate large double-height glazed openings, and provide stability for the existing structure above ground floor level. Intermediate steel beams were incorporated to support a mezzanine floor overlooking the basement, creating a multi-level living area.

To facilitate the new layout, reinforced concrete underpinning was carried out to the existing lower ground floor, increasing head height and ensuring the structural integrity of the altered space. A large sunken terrace was constructed to integrate the garden with the basement space, enhancing natural light and usability. These structural interventions were carefully coordinated to ensure stability while enabling a contemporary, open-plan design suited to modern living.
